Paula Deen is a hypocrite! And she didn't tell you about her diabetes because it would have cost her MILLIONS!

IMPORTED FROM BLOG.COM

Sorry, but I'm going to rant a bit about this subject!

Why didn't Paula Deen the celebrity chef who loves using lots of butter, real cream, and sugar tell people about her diabetes three years ago when she was diagnosed? The answer is very simple...
it would have cost her MILLIONS of dollars, that's why. Her show was based around preparing the wonderfully delicious foods that everyone's mama used to make, using all of those great, fattening and tasty ingredients. Honestly, I will be the first one to tell you that I love a bacon cheeseburger served on a glazed doughnut! OMG! They are amazing, and I would love to have one right now! But that burger alone is AT LEAST 1,500 calories, not to mention it's not the most healthy thing in the world to eat. And it should NEVER be eaten by people who have type 2 diabetes!

But NO...wait! Go ahead and eat this cheeseburger and a piece of deep fried cheesecake as long as you take this new drug, Novo Nordisk's Victoza, which she is now a spokesperson for, in which she is getting $16,000,000 to endorse. Everything will be just fine. Are you kidding me?!?! If you ever wondered what a hypocrite looks like, it looks like Paula Deen.

My guess is that this woman would have NEVER come out and told people she had type 2 diabetes if the word hadn't gotten out, and she finally had to make it public.

Did you honestly think there would be no consequences for eating extremely fatty foods for years? And here's the best part...she has made millions of dollars teaching and showing millions of viewers just how they too can become fat and diabetic! YAY, Paula Deen! And don't think it's just Paula Deen's fault, I blame her producers and the Food Network right along with her on this one.

Don't get me wrong, I am all in favor of a person keeping there business private and especially something medical and personal like this. And I am also an advocate of people making their own choices on what to watch on television. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head and telling them to watch anything; everyone has to make their own choices. But once you become famous and have built an empire, making over $10 million a year, and are selling mama's sugar and spice and everything nice...don't you think you kind of have a responsibility to tell those people who follow you that if you eat these kinds of foods too often you may become overweight and diabetic just like me. Oh, I know she waited for three years so her handlers could work out a plan and negotiate deals to keep her empire going...good for her. But if she is acting like our Mom and cooking like our Moms did, wouldn't our Mom tell us,
"Honey, you shouldn't eat these kinds of foods if you are overweight and a diabetic like your Mother. It really isn't good for you. Here sweetie, here is a beautiful salad with grilled chicken and a wonderful light dressing on it that I made special just for you." But instead it's, "Here is a big thick Butter Burger with a side of grits and for dessert a deep fried Snickers bar wrapped in a Twinkie! And then here is your Victoza to make it all better."
*turn and smile in to the camera with my false teeth...and CUT!*

If you are over 40, inactive, overweight, and eat these foods that are high in fat and calories, you are putting yourself at a higher risk of becoming a type 2 diabetic...if you're LUCKY! And if you never change your ways, and continue to become even more overweight and inactive, you probably will develop type 1 diabetes, and then you are in store for a world of SHIT.

I am going to share just a couple of stories with you that added to my overall frustration with this particular celebrity hypocrite.

My first story is about a beautiful young teenage girl, whom I have had the pleasure of knowing for about five years now. She is a very smart, kind and caring, as well as an incredibly talented dancer. A few years ago this child got sick while on vacation. No one knew why she was so sick. It took quite a few tests to find out that this very normal, healthy, active child had type 1 diabetes. She did not get type 1 diabetes by choice. It was not because of how she ate or how she was raised or anything that she did, no fault of hers or her parents. But she now has to live with this terrible disease.

So it REALLY burns my ass when I see people who HAVE A CHOICE as to whether they get sick or not just throw away their lives. And when a celebrity on TV shows them how to do it...well then, what kind of a society are we becoming?

Another story involves a friend of mine who I grew up with and went through school with. This gifted young man was a very good football player and musician. Over the years I lost touch with him. I ran into him years later, and learned that his diabetes had really gotten the best of him. This disease has taken an incredible toll on his body, claiming both of his legs.

My wife is a nurse anesthetist and could tell you of terrible things that happen to people who have type 1 diabetes, but here are just a few of them...

Complications of Type 1 Diabetes:

  • Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). It can cause coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, or heart attack.
  • Diabetic retinopathy. This is a type of eye disease that can lead to vision loss.
  • Diabetic nephropathy. This kidney disease has no early symptoms, but it can lead to kidney failure.
  • Diabetic neuropathy. This is a nerve disease that can affect your internal organs as well as your ability to sense touch and pain, especially in your feet. It can also cause sexual problems in both men and women.

My last story is one I was reminded of today, and this story has been told to me many times in the last few weeks from you my readers.

Signed,
Challenged
