Monday Nov 28th
Tell someone your goals and what you are trying to do. Hold yourself accountable.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and that your Thanksgiving was a good one. And if you went shopping on Friday you got some great deals as well.
I have realized one thing that this blog has done for me...it is making accountable for my actions. Which is exactly why I started doing this.
Just as any sales/work goal, one thing you are always told to do is write down your goals, put it down on paper (in this case I'm putting my goals on this blog). This way you are reminded of it every day and hopefully your actions will reflect what your goals are.
I also believe you should tell someone, a close friend, family, co-workers or start a blog and tell the world what your goals are. This way hopefully, your friends and family will help you stay on track and remind you what you are trying to do. They will also help hold you accountable for your actions.
So here are my goals...I'm putting this out there for all of you to see...(GULP)...deep breath..
First of all, for the next 14 days I'm doing a cleanse. And I am starting it off by doing a fast for the first 2 days while doing this cleanse. And by fasting I mean I will be drinking a lot of water and drinking my Lean Shakes 3 times a day. I feel by doing this it will help give my body a real cleansing.
My goal for the next month is to lose 10 pounds so I can be 215lbs by Jan 1st.
So, now I have shared my goals with you, now if you want to share your goals and make yourself accountable to someone, I am giving you the opportunity to share your goals right here on this blog. Trust me..it's scary. But it gives me a sense of motivation knowing that other people now know what I need to do and what I want. And hopefully if I falter or feel weak, someone will help keep me motivated and help me get back on track. And if you are too intimidated to post it on here, then send me a message or a text me and I will help hold you accountable in private.
I would also like to say "Thank you" to those who have been messaging me and texting me about asking for help and asking my advice about certain things. I am so humbled that you ask for my help and I am more than happy to do whatever I can to help you reach your goals. Please keep them coming.
TIP OF THE DAY
Counting reps.
This morning I did 950 ab reps. And just so you know I DID NOT count from 1-950.... I break it down.
Break down your reps, make it simple and shorter...
When doing anything, lifting , abs, evening cardio...break it down.
Example: When doing my ab routine I break things down. I start by doing 300 reps on the ball. But I break that down, the first 100 are full sit-ups. But then I break that down by doing 30 straight sit-up, 30 crossing sit-ups, 30 side sit-ups and 10 more straight sit-ups. But then I break those down...while doing the 30 I count the first 20 and then count the final 10.
By doing this I feel it makes things more attainable and it helps push me thru doing so many reps. Also, if you are doing sets of lets say 25 reps, count the first 20 out and then really concentrate on that final 5 and them really good reps.
I hope you find this helpful in your daily workout. (actually I hope I explained it well enough for you to understand...lol)
Have a wonderful Monday everyone and lets all help each other reach our goals! :)
GULP.......ok, so I would also like to lose 10lbs this month. We are having a little motivational-challenge at our house too, which should help! My long-term goal is to lose 60lbs by April/May. I would like to fit into Morgan's prom dress which I paid lots of $$ for and it is beautiful. I NEVER went to a prom, so Tom said he would take me to the Viennese (sp?) Ball! This is big since HE DOESN'T DANCE (maybe someone from ECCT can give us some lessons!). I would also like to 'cleanse' but am not sure how to do it other than just not eating. Kind of a 'kick start.'
ReplyDeleteHere I go!
Thanks for Sharing!! WOW! That is Great motivation, not only do you have a weight loss goal but you also have a wonderful reward waiting for you as well.
ReplyDeleteI will help you with the cleanse. I can recommend two different ones. I have done a 7 day and right now I'm just starting the 14 day. I have recommended the 14 day to other friends and it has worked for those who have followed it.
This is not a sales pitch but I do like the products at GNC and their cleanses are easy to follow and don't cost a huge $$ amount either, they taste good and it's Gold Card week starting on Monday. So if you want to get started I can pick you up a cleanse this week.
And they definitely will give you a kick start to losing weight.
Plus...it's good to clean out the system and start afresh.
Let me know if you want me to get you started.
And thank you for sharing!! That took some guts! :)
You definitely hit the nail on the head with your blog post today, Dan. Accountability is HUGE in success of any kind. Accountability has been extremely important for me since I began my weight loss journey. I never held myself accountable for my unhealthy weight, hence why dieting did not work for me. There is a strong correlation between accountability, goals, success and rewards. Without goals, you have no idea where you have been, where you are going, when you have strayed from your path, or when you have arrived. When I started Weight Watchers in 2007, I started with a small goal of 5% body weight. While this seems like a very small percentage, it calculated out to be over 10 lbs. And I’ll tell you what, it felt REALLY good to meet that goal. :) Throughout my weight loss journey, short-term and long-term goals were set and achieved. When you reach your biggest goal it is important to set another goal, even if it is to maintain. But let’s start with accountability since this is where it all begins…
ReplyDeleteACCOUNTABILITY
Currently, I am my own main source of accountability. However, I cannot thank you, Dan, enough for also holding me accountable and pushing me toward my goals and helping me to succeed. Those mornings that I would much rather just stay wrapped up in my warm blankets on my cozy bed, I get my ass out of bed because I know my presence is expected at the gym, not only from others, but from myself. I hate disappointing others and myself. Also, the past couple weeks I have been attending spin class at Gold’s. You must reserve a seat in the class since they are limited. This is another source that holds me accountable for my actions and helps me push forward to meet and exceed my goals. My clothing and bank account also hold me accountable for my actions. :)
GOALS
As I mentioned in a previous post, my short-term goal is to be down 10% of my starting weight (182 lbs.) by the end of December 2011. I also am working on goals to control my eating habits (including my soda addiction) that stem mainly from emotions, which is an interesting topic I have studied a great deal. If you would like to discuss emotional eating with me, I would be more than happy to chat with you. My long-term goal is to be within 2 lbs. of my goal weight of 150 lbs. by March 29, 2012. By June 1, 2012, I will be back in that bikini and rocking it out! :)
SUCCESS AND REWARDS
I believe that success and rewards go hand in hand. However, one common mistake made by those trying to lose weight is using food as a reward. Now, I am not saying you can never use food as a reward, but think about why you have been succeeding in the first place and if that “reward” will help with your success or hinder it. I used to use food as a reward. I would work out in college and tell myself “well since you worked out, you can have an extra helping of ‘abc’ (usually not a fruit or vegetable) or ‘xyz’ for dessert.” And I wondered why I was not losing weight. ;) It may be helpful to create a list of non-food rewards and perhaps assign them to each goal that you have. Some examples of non-food rewards include a pair of new jeans, a pedicure, a manicure, a new book, a photo shoot, going to a movie (be careful of the popcorn!), or perhaps a trip you have wanted to take for a very long time. The reward does not have to be elaborate or expensive; it just has to be meaningful to you.
------------------------------------------------
Last but not least, I second what Dan said about cleansing. I did the 14-day cleanse from GNC. The cleanse was really easy to follow, and I did feel better after completing it. I would definitely do it again but with a bit more discipline on what I eat during. :)
Have a great day, everyone! Keep up the good work and keep feeling great!
Wow! Thanks Jen, that was a great post, I wish I could say things as well as you just did.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have been trying to make you accountable to make it to the gym. And you are doing much better on your soda addiction as well. Very proud of you, you really are changing your body and your lifestyle these last few months. Keep up the good work! :)
This morning at the gym, I lost the battle. My run was not going as planned and about 25 minutes in I reached the breaking point of "do I push through the pain and finish out?" or "do I stop now?" Well I chose to stop early. I am very disappointed in myself and felt the rest of my workout lacking in energy as well. But on my way home, I replayed the morning in my head and came to the conclusion that I may have lost this battle, but I will win the war on my weight loss journey. I will come prepared to fight tomorrow morning. I will win tomorrow's battle. :)
ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteYou were there this morning and you are not feeling well, it's obvious you have a chest cold. But you were there!! You got out of bed and put in a good workout. No big deal that you didn't get everything out of it you wanted. Your mind and body are getting trained to know that you need to get to the gym and get a workout in. Plus you worked up a good sweat and I'm sure that won't hurt you getting rid of that cold.
Jen, you are winning the war and you are changing your lifestyle. Keep up the GREAT work it really is showing. :) Get better soon.
